Dental Checkups & Cleanings In Edmonton

DENTAL CHECKUPS

The Facts

Most oral health conditions are preventable.

With a great oral hygiene routine and regularly schedule cleanings and checkups, you can do everything possible to help your teeth last a lifetime. Your dentist and hygienist are important sources to information regarding your oral health. Oftentime, common sense isn’t so common and it is at your dental visit where you learn to address your individualized oral needs.

People with generally healthy teeth and gums benefit from a cleaning twice per year. If you’re recovering from gum disease, we may recommend more frequent visits as often as every 3-4 months.

What Happens During My Checkup and Cleaning?

THOROUGH DENTAL EXAMS

After a comprehensive baseline exam, we’ll assess your teeth, gums, and existing dental work for changes at each checkup. Detailed exams allow us to pinpoint minor concerns before they ever have a chance to evolve into something else. If you do require care, we’ll help you create a detailed treatment plan that lists out the recommended therapies.

DIAGNOSTIC X-RAYS

We utilize high-resolution, low-dose digital imaging to assess areas that aren’t visible to the naked eye. Our office is also equipped with a 3D CBCT scanning machine for advanced diagnosis and treatment planning capabilities.

ORAL CANCER SCREENING

Screening and early detection of oral cancer is crucial for a better prognosis. Although your general doctor may not spend much time looking in your mouth, it’s something your dentist does constantly. By pinpointing precancerous tissues in their earliest stages, you can treat them sooner with a greater chance of recovery. Be sure to book an exam at least every six months.

PERIODONTAL EXAM

Did you know that gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults? We’ll carefully evaluate your gum tissues and bone levels to pinpoint early signs of periodontitis, while symptoms are still reversible.

CLEANING AND POLISH

Preventative cleanings allow us to safely remove tartar buildup, polish away stain, and clean away dental biofilm from just below the margins of your gums. Even if you’re great about brushing and flossing each day, most of us need a professional cleaning at least every six months.

HOME CARE INSTRUCTION

As part of your cleaning appointment, our hygienists will show you specific ways to target hard-to-reach areas. That way you can prevent buildup, gum disease, and tooth decay from flaring up between your dental visits.

GUM DISEASE TREATMENTS

Periodontal infections statistically raise your risk of serious health conditions like heart attack, stroke, diabetes, pneumonia, and even infertility. Treating gum disease as early as possible will eradicate bacteria from your mouth and reduce your chances of tooth loss.
