Tooth Extractions In Edmonton

DENTAL EXTRACTIONS

Reasons For Extractions

Dental Extraction procedures are done for many reasons. We list a few below:

  • Emergency Pain Relief

    • Emergency dental extractions is one treatment option when there is severe pain or infection. Although it may not always be the ideal solution, it can provide fast relief of chronic toothaches.

  • Broken Down Teeth

    • Any time we see cases of severe tooth wear, aggressive decay, or advanced periodontal disease, it’s worth asking “can this tooth be saved?” If treatment isn’t possible, dental extraction may be indicated.

  • In Preparation for Braces

    • Your orthodontist may need to remove a few teeth because your jaw is too small to fit all the teeth and may ask us to remove them for you.

  • In Preparations for Dentures

    • Similar to having braces, getting fitted for dentures may require some teeth to be removed. Your denturist may consult with us and ask us to remove teeth with poor prognoses.

  • Stuck Baby Tooth

    • A stubborn baby tooth can sometimes impede the eruption of the adult tooth underneath. If the baby tooth has been in place for too long, it may be time to pull it (and don’t worry, we have better equipment than a string and a door!).

  • Impacted Wisdom Tooth

    • Experiencing facial swelling or wisdom tooth pain? We offer ultra-low-dose 3D digital imaging with our Vatech CBCT to assess wisdom teeth. The 3D scan shows us whether the tooth is impacted, infected, or in a position that could harm adjacent teeth. This is important in planning and risk assessment prior to treatment.

Do I Need A Dental Extraction?

It’s typically the standard of care to help you repair and preserve natural teeth when at all possible. That being said, planning a dental extraction is something that’s usually done on a case-by-case basis. If you need dentures, plan to get dental implants, or it’s no longer feasible to restore a specific tooth, then we will recommend having it removed.

Have A Plan In Mind

Missing teeth create space in your bite that can impact overall tooth alignment. It’s best to replace an extracted tooth as soon as realistically possible. A dental bridge or individual implant are two of the most popular treatments to consider but need to be planned for in advance. Discuss with your Edmonton dentist today if you are needing an extraction.

Although modern techniques like Root Canal (Endodontic) Therapy and dental fillings are great for restoring teeth, sometimes extreme measures are necessary.

Dental Extractions are one such example. Contact Sky Dental if you’re experiencing significant discomfort, dealing with problematic wisdom teeth, or planning a full mouth reconstruction. Our office proudly serves the Edmonton community.
